Job summary

Allison Transmission in Lafayette, IN seeks a Senior Gear Systems Engineer to advance future product development for Off-Highway gear systems, including new gear designs and manufacturing methods.

The role emphasizes design optimization, material innovation, and active collaboration with cross-functional teams to meet performance requirements. Travel is typically under 10% domestically and internationally.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field (graduate preferred).
• 2+ years of bevel and/or cylindrical gear powertrain engineering experience in automotive/off-highway.
• 3+ years of gear design software experience (KissSoft, Gleason, Klingelnberg, or Romax).

Responsibilities

• Interpret customer specifications to design complete gearbox systems (bevel and cylindrical gears, shafts, splines).
• Size and select hardware (bearings, seals, bolts, etc.) for gearbox systems or sub-assemblies.
• Provide technical support across purchasing, manufacturing and other engineering teams.
• Review DFMEAs and DVP&Rs; participate in APQP, PPAPs.
• Mentor and train junior gear engineers and technicians.
• Conduct benchmarking and develop VAVE cost-saving projects.
