Job summary

CMI Group Aerospace & Defense in Tempe, AZ seeks a Senior Process Engineer to own gear, spline, and shaping manufacturing processes for aerospace hardware, driving quality, throughput, and cost from raw material to final inspection.

You will develop documentation, specify tooling and cutting parameters, troubleshoot shop-floor issues, and support NPI/FAI for new gear programs, working onsite with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of process engineering experience in gear, spline, and shaping manufacturing.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering.
• Knowledge of gear geometry and AGMA standards.
• Experience in an AS9100-certified environment.
• Strong root-cause/corrective-action and Cp/Cpk skills.
• Ability to read aerospace drawings with GD&T.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize manufacturing processes for gear shaping, spline rolling/shaping, hobbing, and related operations.
• Create and maintain process documentation: routers, work instructions, setup sheets, and CNC programs.
• Select tooling, fixturing, and cutting parameters for gear shapers and CNC gear-generation equipment.
• Troubleshoot shop-floor process and quality issues and drive root-cause corrective action.
• Support new part introduction (NPI) and first-article inspection (FAI/AS9102).
• Collaborate with quality, program management, and customer engineering on process capability and DFM.
• Drive lean manufacturing initiatives to reduce cycle time and scrap.
