Job summary

Babel Street in Somerville, MA seeks an experienced Data Warehouse Software Engineer III to own, scale, and optimize our GCP data warehousing and ingestion ecosystem. You will architect high-volume ELT/ETL pipelines into BigQuery and manage Airflow/Cloud Composer, collaborating with data and analytics teams to deliver clean, query-optimized data models.

We expect strong Python skills, deep GCP expertise, and hands-on experience upgrading production Airflow environments.

Qualifications

• U.S. Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen due to federal government contract requirements.
• 4–7+ years of professional software development, with at least 3+ years focused on data warehousing, cloud data pipelines, and data platform operations.
• Advanced Python mastery for production-grade data processing, tooling, and integrations.
• Airflow platform operations: DAG architecture, environment configuration, and upgrades.
• Deep experience with Google Cloud analytics stack—BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Cloud Composer, Pub/Sub, Cloud Functions/Run.
• BigQuery optimization: partitioning, clustering, slot management, and query cost-control strategies.
• Git, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software development workflows.

Responsibilities

• Architect, build, and maintain production-grade ELT/ETL pipelines into Google BigQuery.
• Manage, monitor, and upgrade Apache Airflow/Cloud Composer; write modular DAGs and custom operators.
• Maintain core GCP services—BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Pub/Sub; optimize performance and cost.
• Develop high-performance Python scripts, API connectors, and automation tools for data integrations.
• Enforce data quality frameworks, monitoring, and automated alerting across ingestion pipelines.
• Maintain infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD deployment pipelines; mentor junior engineers.
