Job summary

Babel Street, in Somerville, MA, is seeking a Software Engineer I to join our data team on a hybrid schedule. You will help build, maintain, and support our core data warehouse solutions on Google Cloud Platform, translating reporting requests into clean data models and Looker dashboards.

This entry-level role values strong SQL foundations, attention to detail, and a proactive learner mindset as you collaborate with analysts and stakeholders to deliver reliable analytics and scalable pipelines.

Qualifications

• Foundational SQL skills including joins, aggregations, and window functions.
• Solid understanding of relational databases, ETL/ELT concepts, and data warehousing structures.
• Experience or exposure to building dashboards in Looker (or similar BI tools).
• Familiarity with Python for scripting and Git for version control.
• Proactive learner who takes initiative to solve problems and learn new tech.
• Ability to analyze business problems and translate data needs into structured solutions.
• Strong focus on data quality and accuracy in results.

Responsibilities

• Data Pipelines & Modeling: build and maintain data models and tables in BigQuery; update SQL transformations.
• Business Analysis & Collaboration: translate data needs from analysts and stakeholders into clean tables and views.
• Business Intelligence: develop and optimize Looker dashboards and reports for end users.
• Data Quality & Attention to Detail: write validation queries and row-count checks to ensure data integrity.
• Pipeline Monitoring: monitor Cloud Composer DAGs and daily data loads.
• Performance Basics: apply partitioning and clustering to optimize queries.
