Job summary

Xcel Energy in Wisconsin seeks a Gas Senior/Principal Distribution Designer to lead distribution design projects for gas facilities—from concept through execution—coordinating with customers, construction, and regulatory bodies.

The role includes mentoring designers, managing schedules and budgets, obtaining permits, and representing the company with government officials and contractors. Travel and after-hours support may be required.

Qualifications

• Associates degree in drafting, design, automation, electronics, mechatronics, engineering, GIS or related field; equivalent experience also acceptable.
• Minimum 5 years design experience or equivalent; 3 years as Xcel Energy Designer II preferred.
• Mastery of GIS, design software and work management programs.
• Knowledge of transmission line, substation, or distribution design.
• Strong knowledge of construction standards and technical codes.
• Proficiency with Windows OS and Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills; self-starter attitude.

Responsibilities

• Design safe operating facilities per Xcel Energy standards and manage all areas of design including complex projects.
• Manage projects from initial contact through post-project analysis; establish construction work plans to meet schedules and budgets.
• Mentor and train Designers; provide backup leadership to the Designer Manager.
• Obtain permits and easements; execute contracts per regulations and guidelines.
• Represent the Company with government officials, contractors, and engineers to deliver service to customers.
