Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Senior R&D Technical Project Manager to join the Project Management Office. This role drives next-generation High-Temperature Superconducting magnet systems, delivering FOAK complex projects from concept to prototype to production ramp.

You will lead a cross-functional team of engineers, designers, analysts, and procurement specialists, ensuring milestones, risk controls, and strategic alignment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Masters degree in Science, Engineering, or related field with a PMP or other Project Management certification.
• 10+ years of technical experience, with a minimum of 5 years as a project manager leading new product integration.
• Experience acting as a technical liaison with the executive team, internal engineering teams, and external suppliers.
• Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and manage scope, schedule, risk, and budget.

Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of small to mid-sized R&D projects and advise on project management best practices.
• Act as the primary technical liaison with the executive team and internal/external teams across scale-up efforts.
• Understand and manage tradeoffs between research objectives and operational needs.
• Develop and document comprehensive project plans with scope, goals, deliverables, resources, and timeline.
• Lead a cross-functional matrix team to meet execution plan requirements.
• Foster collaboration and high-performance culture to drive project execution.
• Monitor timelines, identify delays, and implement mitigation strategies to maintain schedule.
• Lead risk management across the project lifecycle with regular risk reporting.
