Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking an experienced R&D Production Test Engineer to support testing and de-risking of HTS magnet technology. You will lead test campaigns, develop procedures, and ensure data integrity across cryogenic, vacuum, and high-current environments.

This role sits within the R&D organization, collaborating with magnet physicists, manufacturing experts, and software teams to meet aggressive milestones.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or applied physics.
• 2+ years of hands-on testing experience.
• Strong data collection and analysis skills.
• Experience with test stand operation and instrumentation.
• Ability to collaborate across physics, manufacturing, and engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead magnet and other test campaigns in cryogenic, vacuum, and high-current environments.
• Develop detailed test procedures and ensure data integrity.
• Support improvements to test stands for higher test rate and data quality.
• Design and build test equipment including mechanical, electrical, and fluid systems.
• Maintain and document test requirements, risks, and safety protocols.
• Manage test schedules, budgets, and technical documentation (P&IDs, CAD, schematics).
• Lead anomaly investigations and drive issue resolution with cross-functional teams.
