Job summary

McKinstry in Seattle, WA seeks a Senior Functional Training Program Manager to develop and implement comprehensive training programs that build core project management, contract, risk, and operations capabilities across the Construction Division.

The Opportunity with McKinstry

The Senior Functional Training Program Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving training programs that build core project management, contract, risk, and operational capabilities across the Construction Division. This role partners with Subject Matter Experts and cross‑functional teams to ensure employees are equipped with the practical knowledge and tools needed to deliver projects successfully, reduce risk exposure, and drive consistent execution.

Additional responsibilities may include:

  • Lead the exploration, assessment, and design of workforce development initiatives, including stakeholder engagement, industry benchmarking, business needs analysis, and creation of strategic recommendations and implementation roadmaps.
  • Direct multiple learning initiatives, ensuring work is effectively planned, prioritized, and executed with consistency and quality.
  • Develop and evolve an innovative and ambitious division‑wide learning strategy and roadmap aligned with business priorities.
  • Create and sustain role‑based learning paths and monitor completion to support employee development and readiness.
  • Assess capability gaps through partnership with leadership, project reviews, and performance insights.
  • Translate complex concepts such as contracts, risk, cost control, and scheduling into practical, accessible guidance.
  • Design learning experiences that are engaging, applicable, and directly connected to job performance.
  • Manage, coach, and partner with Senior Instructional Designer to develop and coordinate trainings.
  • Partner with Subject Matter Experts across Construction, Legal, Procurement, Finance, and Operations to build accurate and relevant content.
  • Collaborate with standardization and quality management colleagues within OpEx to ensure training content reflects defined standards and is supported by compliance metrics.
  • Leverage learning technologies and platforms (e.g., LMS, digital learning tools) to support scalable delivery and reporting.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness and business impact, using data and feedback to demonstrate value and plan continuous improvement efforts.
  • Influence stakeholders and leaders to champion adoption of training programs and sustained behavior change.
  • Represent the Construction Division in Functional Training Cohort and Enterprise Learning Council to align priorities, share best practices, and contribute to a consistent enterprise learning approach.
  • Facilitate instructor‑led courses, as needed.
What You Need To Succeed at McKinstry
  • 7+ years of experience leading training, learning, workforce development, or instructional design programs, preferably within construction or related industry.
  • Demonstrated success designing and launching scalable learning programs from concept through implementation.
  • Experience leading discovery efforts, conducting needs assessments, and developing recommendations for new workforce development initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of adult learning principles, instructional design methodologies, and learning technologies.
  • Experience partnering with Subject Matter Experts and business leaders to translate operational needs into practical learning solutions.
  • Ability to design and facilitate engaging learning experiences through instructor‑led, blended formats, and e‑learning.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with a track record of driving adoption of new tools, processes, or behaviors.
  • Continuous improvement mindset, using data and feedback to evaluate effectiveness and refine programs.
  • Excellent facilitation, communication, and relationship‑building skills across technical and leadership audiences.
  • Experience leveraging learning management systems and reporting tools (e.g., Docebo) to support program administration, analytics, and learner engagement.
  • Experience providing people leadership, including coaching, development, and performance management.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, navigate organizational change, and deliver results in a fast‑paced environment.
Preferred experience
  • Experience in construction, project‑based operations, or related industries.
  • Working knowledge of project delivery, contracts, risk management, cost control, scheduling, and operational workflows.
  • Experience building onboarding academies, role‑based development programs, professional certification pathways, or large‑scale workforce development initiatives.

The pay range for this position is $89,010 - $151,300 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location.
