Job summary

Atlassian is hiring a senior full-stack engineer to support the DX team. You’ll fluently navigate Ruby on Rails, React, and SQL, delivering end-to-end features from problem shaping with product/design to shipping high-quality code and measuring impact.

You’ll work on backend-heavy development, REST APIs, and customer-facing components, while ensuring code quality, tests, and monitoring across distributed environments.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend-focused full-stack experience.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• Proficiency in modern OO languages (e.g., Java, Kotlin, Go, Scala, Python).
• Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and libraries (React, Node).
• Experience with scalable RESTful microservices and databases (Postgres, DynamoDB).
• Familiarity with cloud patterns and public clouds (AWS).

About the role

We’re looking for a senior full-stack engineer to support our DX team at Atlassian. Someone who’s as comfortable diving into a Ruby on Rails codebase and raw SQL as they are crafting thoughtful, accessible UI in React and TailwindCSS. You’ll work end-to-end on features: from shaping vague problem statements with product and design, to shipping high-quality code, to measuring impact and iterating quickly.

What you’ll do

• Build and ship features and capabilities daily in a highly scalable, cross-geo distributed environment.
• Focus on backend-heavy full-stack development, building robust REST APIs while contributing to customer-facing React components.
• Review code with best practices of readability, testing patterns, documentation, reliability, security, and performance considerations in mind.
• Collaborate with other engineers, designers, and product managers to understand user pain points and iterate on great solutions.
• Ensure full visibility, error reporting, and monitoring of high-performing backend services.
• Participate in Agile software development including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and team retrospectives.
• Write performant raw SQL to power complex queries, reports, and data workflows.
• Collaborate closely with product and design to shape problem statements, refine requirements, and propose pragmatic technical solutions when specs are incomplete or ambiguous.
• Own projects end-to-end: architecture, implementation, self‑QA, rollout, monitoring, and iteration based on customer and stakeholder feedback.
• Hold a high bar for quality: write clear, maintainable code, comprehensive tests, and robust monitoring/alerting where appropriate.
• Contribute to improving our engineering practices, tooling, and standards, especially around data correctness, reporting, and reliability.

Your Background:

• 5+ years of industry experience building and developing backend applications with a lean towards full-stack capabilities.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree (preferably a Computer Science degree or equivalent experience).
• Proficiency in any modern object-oriented programming language (e.g., Java, Kotlin, Go, Scala, Python).
• Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and supporting libraries (e.g., React, Node).
• Experience crafting and implementing highly scalable and performant RESTful micro‑services.
• Fluency in at least one database technology (e.g., RDBMS like Postgres and/or NoSQL like DynamoDB).
• Familiarity with cloud architecture patterns and hands‑on experience with public cloud offerings (AWS preferred).
• A passion for collaboration and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
