Senior Full Stack Engineer, Trust & Safety

Remote - US

About the team & opportunity

What’s so great about working on Calendly’s Trust & Safety team? Our Trust & Safety team is tasked with safeguarding our platform’s integrity and addressing a range of challenges including detecting and mitigating fraudulent activity, preventing abuse, and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory standards. You will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and maintaining our system to prevent, detect, and respond to these threats in real-time – in an automated fashion.

Why do we need you? We are looking for a Senior Full Stack Engineer who will bring strong technical competency and distributed systems experience, enjoys solving complex problems with a results driven mindset, and fosters a strong sense of ownership and operational excellence. You will report to the Senior Engineering Manager, Trust & Safety in this role.

A day in the life of a Senior Full Stack Engineer, Trust & Safety at Calendly

The Calendly system is a monolith that is being decomposed into various services in order for us to scale our platform and team. We need ambitious, experienced engineers who can help us drive this stage of growth. As an engineer at Calendly, you will both build new features and work to scale our platform and architecture. You will build tooling and automation to fine tune our delivery process as you grow into a service oriented specialist. You will also learn to work with multiple technologies such as Google Cloud Platform, Kubernetes, Argo Workflows, Go, Node, TypeScript, Rails, React, PostgreSQL, Redis, and more.

On a typical day, you will:

  • Design and implement systems to detect and mitigate fraud, abuse, and other threats to platform integrity
  • Develop algorithms and machine learning models to identify patterns of malicious behavior and enforce preventive measures
  • Collaborate with Product, Legal, and Security teams to ensure compliance with evolving regulatory requirements and industry standards
  • Build monitoring and alerting tools to proactively address emerging threats
  • Optimize performance and scalability of Trust & Safety systems to support the platform's growth
  • Conduct root cause analyses of incidents and implement long-term fixes to enhance system resilience
  • Stay informed about new security threats, vulnerabilities, and mitigation strategies in the Trust & Safety domain
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to building a strong engineering culture

What do we need from you?

  • 7+ years of Software Development experience at a SaaS or technology company
  • Proven track record within the Trust & Safety domain and familiarity with addressing challenges around spam detection, account takeovers, and content moderation
  • Knowledge of machine learning techniques and their applications in fraud detection and abuse prevention
  • Deep understanding of distributed systems and cloud computing, including practical experience building, operating, and maintaining high-traffic, high-availability platforms and systems
  • Experience working with cloud providers like Google Cloud to deploy and manage services, along with leveraging infrastructure-as-code and Terraform is a plus
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Node + TypeScript and Rails with a drive to craft clean, reliable, and maintainable code; including writing comprehensive tests – unit, functional, and integration tests
  • Strong web frontend skills with experience utilizing React for client-side application development
  • Strong analytical thinking and ability to design solutions to complex challenges
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Availability for participation in on-call rotation, ensuring prompt and effective responses to business-critical alerts outside of regular working hours
  • Authorized to work lawfully in the United States of America as Calendly does not engage in immigration sponsorship at this time

What’s in it for you?
