Job summary

Highmark Health is seeking an experienced software engineer to join an agile team responsible for scalable applications across digital channels. You will take an enterprise view, architect solutions, and drive development using React on the frontend and Python with PostgreSQL/BigQuery on the backend.

The role requires 5+ years in design, diverse language experience, and strong knowledge of cloud, REST, and CI/CD. Office-based in NY with HIPAA/compliance context and opportunities for mentorship.

Qualifications

• 5 years proficiency in design and analysis of algorithms, data structures, and design patterns
• 5 years in at least one modern programming language (Java, Python, JavaScript, ACE, IIB/ITX, Informatica) and experience with two of: React, Angular v4+, NodeJS, NoSQL, HTML5, CSS, GCP or AWS
• 5 years of understanding of web services technologies (REST, HTTPS, JSON)
• 5 years with one or more general purpose languages (Java, Python, C/C++, C#, Objective C, JavaScript, Go)
• 5 years in defining system architectures and exploring feasibility trade-offs for both short-term and long-term capabilities
• 7 years of healthcare tech experience (preferred)
• 5 years translating designs into working apps
• 5 years of writing fault-tolerant, efficient, maintainable code
• 1 year ML exposure (NLP, MT, deep nets)
• Proven full-stack expertise with React frontend and Python/PostgreSQL/BigQuery backend; GraphQL/REST APIs; DB views
• Strong asynchronous processing with Celery and GCP Pub/Sub
• CI/CD and deployment strategies with GitLab CI/CD across on-prem/OpenShift/GCP
• Senior-level contributions to architecture, mentoring, code quality, security, and performance in Agile

Responsibilities

• Responsible for designing and creating engineering specifications and writing code that adheres to standards; perform code reviews.
• Generate ideas and implement technical solutions; ensure scalability and performance against project plans.
• Participate in all Scrum ceremonies; assist sprint planning and complete required sprints.
• Drive story creation; define DoD, acceptance criteria, estimation; create tasks in RTC or Jira; update statuses.
• Monitor progress against production schedule; report issues to lead developers regularly.
• Mentor associate and intermediate software engineers as needed.
• Other duties as assigned or requested.
