Job summary

Capital One is seeking a Full-stack Engineer 4 to join the Cloud Operations Resilience Engineering team. You’ll build and modernize cloud-based, distributed data systems and microservices that satisfy regulatory needs and scale to millions of users.

You’ll work with Java, Scala, Python, Go, Node.js, and AWS tools, driving architectural decisions, implementing CI/CD processes, and mentoring engineers across Agile teams. This role emphasizes technical leadership and ownership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field.
• At least 4 years of experience in software engineering.
• At least 2 years of experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related field is preferred.
• 7+ years of experience coding with multiple languages (Go, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Rust, C#, or Scala).
• 4+ years of experience creating APIs (synchronous and asynchronous).
• 4+ years of experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
• 4+ years of experience with distributed data/computing tools (MapReduce, Hadoop, Hive, EMR, Kafka, Spark).
• 4+ years building real-time data and streaming apps.
• 3+ years database design and DBMS.
• 4+ years using open-source frameworks.
• 3+ years CI/CD, IaC, and automated testing.
• 3+ years Git-based version control.
• 1+ years observability to optimize performance.
• 1+ years mentoring engineers.
• Experience leveraging AI tooling to accelerate productivity.
• Experience leading cross-functional engineering efforts.
• Experience establishing coding standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead a portfolio of diverse technology projects with distributed microservices and full-stack systems.
• Mentor engineers and engage with engineering communities.
• Collaborate with product managers to deliver cloud-based solutions for users.
• Utilize Java, Scala, Python, Go, Node.js, JavaScript, TypeScript, and databases.
• Provide technical leadership across Agile teams and define standards.
• Partner with architects on service boundaries and integration patterns.
• Refactor areas to reduce technical debt and improve performance.
• Influence long-term tech strategy via emerging tools and practices.
