Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Full Stack Web) to build high-impact web products and intelligent search capabilities on Google Cloud Platform using Vertex AI Search. You will lead planning, design, architecture, and execution, mentoring peers and driving engineering practices.

You will work closely with product and data/ML teams to measure and improve search relevance and customer engagement, while delivering scalable APIs and cloud-enabled services in a hybrid

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of web application development experience.
• Strong frontend and backend development skills, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Java, Python, and/or server-side JavaScript.
• Hands-on experience designing and operating production workloads on GCP, including services such as Cloud Run, GKE, Cloud Functions, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage, Cloud SQL/Spanner, and BigQuery.
• Experience with AI-powered search or recommendation systems, ideally Vertex AI Search or similar semantic/vector search platforms.
• Experience with system design, testing, debugging, automation, and performance optimization.
• Master’s degree or 7+ years of experience; ReactJS experience; Adobe Experience Manager, Akamai, Azure; Vertex AI Search direct experience; LLM/embedding retrieval, RAG, experimentation, and personalization.

Responsibilities

• Develop web applications across GM brands and marketing experiences.
• Design and implement AI-powered search experiences using Vertex AI Search.
• Mentor engineers and drive technical decisions within the team.
• Investigate and resolve performance bottlenecks across the full stack.
• Lead automated testing, quality gates, and delivery pipelines with a focus on reliability.
• Build robust APIs and backend services exposing search and recommendations.
