Job summary

athenahealth is seeking a Lead Member of Technical Staff in Boston to anchor a React-based clinical frontend platform. You will guide architectural decisions, mentor engineers, and ensure high-quality frontend delivery across a unified architecture.

Role combines hands-on development with technical leadership, reporting to a Principal Member of Technical Staff. Expect collaboration with product, design, and backend teams, and involvement in architectural planning and platform-wide standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 6 years of frontend software development experience, including time in a leadership role.
• Deep proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript for large-scale frontend environments.
• Extensive experience building component-driven web apps using React.js; state management and design system integration.
• Solid knowledge of Node.js for build tooling, server-side rendering, or frontend-adjacent services.
• Hands-on experience with GraphQL for client-side data fetching and API design.
• Exposure to Perl, Oracle, AWS, Jenkins, and Harness is preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical design, conduct code reviews, and set engineering standards.
• Experience working in an Agile lifecycle and communicating across teams in a hybrid environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead frontend features and platform components using JavaScript, React.js, and TypeScript.
• Mentor frontend engineers on implementation, code quality, and conventions.
• Define frontend architecture patterns and engineering standards for a unified codebase.
• Integrate frontend with backend via GraphQL and REST APIs; enforce data-access consistency.
• Utilize Node.js for build tooling and server-side rendering within the platform stack.
• Collaborate with product, design, and backend teams to shape technical direction.
• Evaluate and integrate AI-assisted development tools into the workflow.
• Drive code review practices, testing standards, and deployment readiness.
• Analyze and migrate legacy frontend codebases to modern React-based architecture.
• Coordinate cross-functional API, data contracts, and deployment pipelines.
