Job summary

Forward Air Corp. is seeking a Forklift Operator to safely load, unload, stage, and move freight within a multimodal terminal or warehouse environment in Linden, NJ.

You will use sit-down/stand-up forklifts and handheld scanners, documenting cargo with accuracy while mentoring newer Material Handlers as needed. The role requires 3+ years of dock/warehouse experience, a valid forklift certification (or ability to obtain), and strong English communication and math skills.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED preferred but not required.
• Valid forklift certification/licensure required or ability to obtain before operating equipment.
• Minimum 3+ years of dock or warehouse experience.
• Proficient English communication, verbal and written.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic and freight documentation accuracy.
• Willingness to learn computer systems and handheld devices.
• Experience operating MHE such as pallet jacks, forklifts, order pickers.
• Regular attendance and safety-conscious work habits.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight using forklifts and other MHE.
• Move, stage, sort, and position freight between dock doors and areas.
• Pick, pack, and prepare items for shipping.
• Assist drivers with loading/unloading per safety procedures.
• Label, scan, and track freight for accuracy.
• Identify damaged freight and report issues promptly.
• Maintain a clean, safe dock environment and adhere to PPE.
• Learn equipment operation and safety procedures on the floor.
• Support dock productivity and overall operational goals.
• Work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
• Handle oversized, high-value freight safely with available aids.
