Job summary

Pentangle Tech Services | P5 Group is seeking an experienced FPGA/embedded systems engineer to design, implement, and validate HDL-based digital systems and power control firmware. You will model power systems in Matlab/Simulink and develop testing tools in Python to streamline designs.

You will collaborate with electrical power and controls engineers, applying both hardware and software expertise to optimize performance. A BS degree and 5+ years in HDL-enabled embedded work are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree.
• 5+ years of experience with embedded HDL design.
• Experience with SPI, I2C, memory buses, AMBA AXI/AHB, CAN, RS485, Ethernet, EtherCAT, USB or Fiber Optics.
• DSP in embedded/FPGA systems.
• Power electronics and switching converter control experience.
• HDL design using Verilog or VHDL.
• Proficiency with Git or similar version control systems.
• Hands-on FPGA design and implementation experience.
• Knowledge of power systems and digital control concepts.
• HDL-based development flows including simulation, synthesis, and hardware debugging.

Responsibilities

• Write, simulate, and debug HDL code for FPGA designs.
• Develop and maintain Python command-line tooling to test FPGA designs.
• Use Matlab/Simulink to model electrical power systems and control algorithms.
• Collaborate with electrical power and controls engineers to optimize system performance.
• Implement embedded HDL designs with various communication protocols.
• Develop HDL designs for DSP, switching converter control, and motor control.
• Use lab equipment to probe, test, and debug digital hardware.
• Create scripted workflows and tooling integrated with version control for repeatable testing.
• Synthesize, implement, and verify designs on target hardware.
• Document designs, test procedures, and results clearly.
