Job Summary

General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. GA-EMS’ expanding portfolio of specialized products and integrated system solutions support critical fleet, space systems and satellites, missile defense, power and energy, and process and monitoring applications for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide.

We are currently hiring a Senior FPGA Electrical Design Engineer for the GA-EMS Radar Technologies Directorate. In this role, you will work with the hardware design team to design custom hardware solutions for radar applications and develop the corresponding firmware. You will report to the Senior Manager of Software Engineering within the Radar Technologies Directorate.

This is a hybrid role requiring in-office presence for lab work and collaboration.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Generate electrical controls and embedded systems architecture solutions, perform analyses, document findings, and communicate results.
  • Develop FPGA designs for Xilinx products using VHDL for applications such as RF DSP, controls, data links, embedded processing, and processor interfaces.
  • Evaluate integration within the engineering environment, ensuring documentation, testing, and updates are completed.
  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary scrum team on hardware design development and integration.
  • Represent the company at technical reviews and meetings.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's, master's, or PhD in engineering or related field from an accredited institution, with relevant experience: 12+ years for bachelor's, 10+ for master's, 7+ for PhD. Equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Experience in embedded systems development, mixed-signal circuit design, and hardware systems including digital, analog, and RF.
  • Proficiency with Xilinx Vivado Design Suite.
  • Desired: experience with bare-metal C programming and PetaLinux.
  • Experience with RFSoC, DDC, NOC, FFT, beamforming architectures.
  • Familiarity with high-speed interfaces such as GbE, DDR3/4, JESD204B/C, SPI, I2C, UART.
  • Experience with FPGA simulation and troubleshooting.
  • Strong technical expertise, organizational skills, and project leadership experience.
  • Ability to quickly learn new concepts and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.

Job Type: Full-Time
Salary range: $116,480 - $208,505
