SENIOR FORMULATION CHEMIST

Location: Berkeley, California (On-site)

Employment Type: Full-Time

The Senior Formulation Chemist will report to the Director of Research and Development (R&D) and contribute to new product formulation, prototype development, laboratory experimentation, product improvement, and quality control.

This role requires hands-on experience in home care formulation, particularly laundry products and cleaning formulations, along with expertise in Design of Experiments (DOE), mixture experiments, and statistical methods for developing chemical-based products.

The successful candidate will collaborate with Product Development and manufacturing teams, support production trials, and help transition formulations from laboratory development to pilot plant and full-scale production.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience in home care formulation, such as laundry products, all-purpose cleaners, automatic dishwashing products, floor cleaners, or related cleaning products.
• Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE).
• Experience with mixture experiments and statistical approaches to developing chemical-based products.
• Ability to conduct laboratory experiments, analyze results, and document findings accurately.
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and support formulation development projects.
• Ability to work on-site in Berkeley, California.
• Authorization to work in the United States without employer-sponsored visa support.

Preferred Qualifications

• Five or more years of formulation and product development experience in personal care, beauty, or home care products.
• Strong preference for candidates with direct home care formulation experience, particularly laundry products or cleaning formulations.
• Familiarity with JMP or similar statistical analysis tools.
• Experience using JMP for:
  • Analysis of Variance (ANOVA)
  • Design of Experiments (DOE)
  • Process control
• Experience supporting production trials and formulation scale-up from laboratory to pilot plant or manufacturing production.
• Experience in a fast-growing consumer products company.
• Ability to adapt quickly while maintaining strong attention to detail and scientific rigor.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented Senior Formulation Chemist with at least five years of relevant formulation and product development experience, particularly in home care products such as laundry detergents and cleaning solutions.

The candidate should demonstrate:

• Hands-on home care formulation experience.
• Strong DOE, mixture experiment, and statistical analysis capabilities.
• Familiarity with JMP or comparable statistical tools.
• Experience supporting laboratory-to-pilot and manufacturing scale-up.
