Job summary

City of Chicago's Department of Transportation seeks a General Foreman of Laborers for curbs and gutters to supervise and coordinate field crews on asphalt paving, concrete work, and related street repairs. Location: 1501 West Pershing Road. Hours: 7:30 a.m.

to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Salary starts at $57.39 per hour. Under the union bargaining unit 54, this role directs Foremen, organizes schedules, approves timesheets, and ensures safety at the work sites.

Qualifications

• Five (5) years of experience in construction, maintenance, and repair of street alleys, sidewalks, and curbs and gutters, with two (2) years in a supervisory capacity.
• Five (5) years of experience in asphalt resurfacing or related general labor operations, with two (2) years supervisory.
• A valid State of Illinois driver’s license is required.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
• Ability to move hands and arms to grasp or manipulate objects.

Responsibilities

• Directs large scale construction work operations relating to asphalt paving and resurfacing of city streets, alleys, and roads, or concrete work such as sidewalks, curbs and gutters.
• Coordinates and monitors the work of Foremen and field crews engaged in preparing work sites and finishing asphalt materials.
• Plans, schedules, and executes work projects to meet department objectives and performance measures.
• Prepares work schedules and approves timesheets for subordinates.
• Enforces safety requirements and ensures compliance with safety standards.
• Tracks status of open work orders and responds to major incidents at work sites.
