Job summary

Joby Aviation's Flight Research team seeks a Test Pilot to operate research and development crewed and UAS platforms, with primary focus on the Cessna Caravan programme. Based in Concord, CA, the role involves pilot command duties during developmental and operational flight testing with a small, fast-moving team.

Responsibilities include creating test plans and reports, data analysis, and collaboration with engineers on human interfaces and airspace integration.

Qualifications

• FAA Commercial Pilot certificate
• Instrument airplane rating
• Second class or better medical certificate
• Bachelor's degree in a STEM field, preferably engineering
• Minimum 1,500 hours pilot in command flight time and 300 hours turbine time
• At least 8 years of experience in a flight test position
• SETP-recognised Test Pilot School graduate (preferred)
• FAA certified flight instructor (preferred)
• leadership positions in a flight test organisation (preferred)
• C-208 experience (preferred)
• experience with highly automated aircraft (preferred)
• experience as an operator or pilot of UAS systems (preferred)

Responsibilities

• Act as airborne and remote pilot in command for various R&D aircraft platforms, depending on the phase of the programme
• Uphold standard operating procedures and regulatory requirements
• Uphold a strong safety culture
• Create test plans, test cards and reports
• Conduct data analysis
• Collaborate with other crew members in preparation, execution and post-test activities
• Provide detailed feedback and recommendations for system improvements
• Play an active role in engineering design activities, with particular emphasis on human interfaces and airspace integration
