Job summary

Ruppert Landscape Co in Richmond, VA seeks a Senior Fleet Mechanic / Shop Manager to maintain and repair a diverse fleet and to lead day-to-day shop operations. You will balance hands-on repairs with shop leadership, coordinate with branches, and ensure safety and company standards are met.

The role emphasizes preventive maintenance, downtime reduction, and asset conditioning, with a focus on keeping vehicles safe, clean, and compliant.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years hands-on experience as a mechanic, preferably with fleet vehicles or landscaping equipment.
• Strong ability to diagnose and repair gas and diesel engines, hydraulic and electrical systems.
• Experience leading or managing a shop, crew, or maintenance operation is strongly preferred.
• Willingness to remain hands-on while managing shop responsibilities.
• Experience with paint, bodywork, and reconditioning is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on a wide variety of vehicles and equipment.
• Serve as a hands-on leader in the shop, balancing repairs with shop management.
• Prioritize and coordinate repairs with branch personnel to minimize downtime.
• Lead seasonal vehicle and equipment reconditioning programs.
• Inspect equipment and identify misuse or unsafe operation and communicate concerns.
