The Fisheries Biologist will be responsible for planning, leading, and executing technical aquatic sciences programs and projects. This includes maintaining strong relationships with GEI staff, clients, and teaming partners, as well as managing and contributing to environmental project and proposal teams. The ideal candidate will have experience with small-, medium-, and large-scale projects in fisheries, aquatic sciences, and natural resources, primarily in California but also in other states. They will lead complex projects focused on aquatic systems.
The successful applicant will provide leadership in fisheries and aquatic ecology technical work, including fisheries sampling, ecological restoration, Delta and Central Valley projects, natural resource management planning, ESA compliance, and biological impact assessments for ESA, FERC, SWRCB, NEPA, and CEQA. Experience with FERC processes is a plus. Projects involve complex fisheries analyses, mitigation planning, multidisciplinary teamwork, and innovative project design. Opportunities include watershed management, habitat restoration, bio-assessment, large environmental compliance documents, flood control, water rights, and regulatory proceedings. Mentoring and problem-solving in a collegial environment are key components.
