Job summary

Tin Can is seeking a Senior Firmware Engineer to own the software that runs on our safety-focused kid devices. You will develop firmware on ESP32, manage provisioning, and ensure reliable calls and audio on the device, collaborating with hardware, voice, IoT, and app teams.

You will drive OTA updates, versioning, and recovery strategies, and work to improve real-time call quality, device reliability, and field issue resolution as we scale to thousands of families.

Qualifications

• 5+ years building and shipping firmware for connected devices.
• Experience with ESP32 or Espressif hardware is a plus.
• Ability to ship over-the-air updates with safe rollouts and versioning.

Responsibilities

• Own device firmware end-to-end (C/C++ on ESP32), including connectivity, provisioning, call behavior, and on-device audio.
• Implement safe OTA update mechanisms with phased rollouts and rollback capabilities.
• Improve real-time audio quality across the device audio path (I2S, codecs, echo cancellation).
• Investigate field issues like Wi-Fi drops, mesh quirks, and dropped calls; drive root cause.
