About iT2
Integrated Tactical Technologies (iT2) builds advanced IoT and wearable systems for commercial and government applications. Our products operate at the intersection of embedded systems, secure connectivity, and real-world constraints—where reliability, performance, and manufacturability matter as much as innovation.
We are looking for a Lead Firmware Engineer who thrives in hands-on technical work while providing technical leadership across firmware, hardware integration, and cross-functional execution.
The Role
As Lead Firmware Engineer, you will own the firmware architecture and implementation for our next generation of connected devices. You’ll work closely with electrical, mechanical, and systems engineers to deliver production-ready solutions—from early prototypes through manufacturing and field deployment.
This is a builder-leader role: deep hands-on firmware development combined with technical decision-making, mentoring, and ownership of quality, security, and performance.
What You’ll Do
Firmware & Systems Development
- Architect, design, and implement embedded firmware for IoT and wearable devices
- Develop low-level drivers and system software (UART, I2C, SPI, GPIO, ADC, sensors)
- Build firmware on RTOS (e.g., FreeRTOS) or bare-metal environments
- Optimize power consumption, performance, and reliability for constrained devices
- Implement secure boot, encryption, and OTA update mechanisms
Hardware Integration & Bring-Up
- Lead board bring-up and system debugging using JTAG/SWD, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers
- Collaborate with EE and ME teams on schematics, PCB layout, and electro-mechanical integration
- Support manufacturing readiness, test strategies, and yield improvement
- Serve as technical lead for firmware across projects
- Mentor junior engineers and set best practices for embedded development
- Conduct code reviews and drive high engineering standards
- Partner with product, hardware, and ML teams on roadmap execution and feature delivery
Compliance & Quality
- Ensure firmware meets regulatory and customer requirements (commercial and government)
- Contribute to risk assessments, documentation, and security reviews
- Support certification efforts (e.g., FCC, CE, UL, DoD-related requirements as applicable)
What We’re Looking For
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
- 7–10+ years of hands-on embedded firmware experience
- Strong proficiency in C/C++ for real-time systems
- Experience with low-power microcontrollers (ARM Cortex-M, STM, Nordic nRF52, ESP, or similar)
- Proven ability to debug complex hardware-software issues
- Experience working closely with electrical and mechanical engineering teams
Technical Skills
- Embedded debugging tools (JTAG/SWD, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers)
- RTOS concepts, task scheduling, memory management
- Power management and battery-powered system optimization
- Git-based workflows, CI/testing, and embedded build systems
Nice to Have
- Experience with AI/ML at the edge or sensor fusion
- Familiarity with PCB design tools (e.g., Altium)
- Experience in regulated or government-adjacent environments
- Python or scripting for test and automation
Why Join iT2?
- Work on mission-critical, real-world products, not demos
- High ownership and influence over architecture and execution
- Small, highly technical team with direct impact
- Opportunity to shape firmware practices and technical direction
