Job summary

Thermo Fisher Scientific in Ohio is seeking a Senior Firmware Engineer to design, develop, and maintain embedded firmware for next‑generation handheld radiation detection systems used in public safety and environmental monitoring.

You will work closely with electrical, systems, and software teams to bring up Renesas microcontrollers, implement RTOS-based software, and ensure robust, production‑quality firmware for field deployments.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of embedded firmware experience.
• Strong embedded C and RTOS experience.
• Experience with Renesas microcontrollers and tools.
• Experience with debugging tools (JTAG/SWD, scopes).

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, debug, and maintain embedded firmware for microcontroller systems.
• Develop RTOS-based firmware including task scheduling and inter-task communication.
• Bring up and integrate firmware on Renesas platforms and BSPs.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers during board bring-up and troubleshooting.
• Develop and maintain low-level drivers for interfaces (I2C, SPI, UART, USB, Ethernet, CAN).
• Participate in firmware architecture reviews and code reviews.
• Create robust, testable firmware for production systems.
• Debug firmware and hardware interactions with lab equipment.
• Support integration with higher-level software and cloud services.
• Create unit, integration, and system tests for embedded firmware.
• Document requirements, designs, tests, and release notes.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet schedules.
