Job summary

Antares is hiring a Firmware Engineer to build embedded software for our first-of-a-kind microreactor hardware. You will translate sensor signals, device commands, timing, diagnostics, and fault responses into reliable firmware behavior at the hardware level.

You will develop firmware for embedded controllers, instrumentation electronics, data acquisition systems, and test hardware, defining initialization, monitoring, and safe operation across development, integration, and qualification

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS/CE/Software Engineering or related field.
• 2+ years of experience developing production software in C/C++/Python/Rust or similar for hardware-integrated systems.
• Experience with multi-threaded or multi-process software, IPC, networking, or publish/subscribe models.
• Experience integrating software with sensors, controllers, DAQs and embedded interfaces.
• Strong debugging across software, hardware and system boundaries.
• Ability to design clear interfaces, data models, and testable system behaviors.
• Comfortable with evolving requirements during prototype bring-up and cross-functional trades.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain firmware for reactor instrumentation and control systems.
• Develop embedded software for microcontrollers and real-time hardware platforms.
• Bring up new hardware and debug board-level issues; validate firmware behavior with lab equipment.
• Implement communication interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, Ethernet, RS-485).
• Develop firmware for sensor acquisition, telemetry, diagnostics, and fault handling.
• Collaborate with electrical, controls, and safety teams to ensure compliance and reliability.
• Support hardware-in-the-loop testing and automated test frameworks.
• Create firmware test plans and documentation for releases.
• Analyze failure modes and drive root-cause investigations.
