Tovala is hiring a Senior Firmware Engineer to advance firmware for our connected ovens, from legacy Electric Imp/Squirrel to ESP32 platforms. You will Own end-to-end fixes, features, and performance while integrating AI-assisted tooling.

Hybrid work near Chicago or Urbana is preferred; significant collaboration with hardware, thermal, manufacturing, and backend teams ensures robust, scalable fleet software and routines across production and lab environments.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional firmware or embedded software engineering experience shipping firmware to internet-connected devices.
• Strong fundamentals in C/C++ and embedded systems including RTOS, memory, timing, interrupts and real-time constraints.

Responsabilités

• Design, build, test, and ship firmware for connected ovens, starting with Electric Imp/Squirrel fleet and contributing to ESP32 platform.
• Own bug fixes, feature additions, and performance improvements end-to-end from scoping to production monitoring.
• Write, monitor and maintain automated firmware test pipelines.
• Design and execute test plans on bench and real fleet subsets.
• Use AI-assisted development tools as part of workflow while applying judgment for hardware-adjacent contexts.
• Collaborate with thermal, mechanical, quality, manufacturing, ops, and backend teams to root-cause full-stack issues.
• Help evolve firmware development practices: code reviews, test infra, release processes, AI tooling usage.
• Document and communicate tradeoffs clearly for durable work.
