Job summary

Acara Solutions is seeking a Firmware Engineer to support design, development, testing, integration, and installation of advanced systems for Navy platforms and defense applications. You’ll work in a multidisciplinary team delivering hardware‑software solutions from concept through deployment.

You will design bare‑metal firmware in C for ARM Cortex‑M, develop low‑level interfaces, optimize performance, and collaborate with hardware and systems teams.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in Mechanical Engineering, Product Development, Hardware Design, Electromechanical Systems, or related fields with a Bachelor's degree; or 6+ months of experience with a Master's degree.
• 2+ years of experience creating mechanical designs, engineering drawings, models, or technical documentation.
• 2+ years of experience supporting product development, testing, qualification, manufacturing support, or systems integration activities.
• 1+ years of experience utilizing CAD software to create mechanical models and detailed drawings.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related Science, Engineering, or Mathematics discipline.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement bare‑metal firmware in C for ARM Cortex‑M and other microcontroller architectures
• Develop drivers and low‑level interfaces for peripherals including SPI, I2C, UART, GPIO, ADC, PWM, and timer modules
• Profile and optimize code for performance, power consumption, and memory constraints
• Work closely with hardware engineers, systems architects, and product teams to translate requirements into firmware solutions
• Nice to Have, Use oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, debuggers (SWD, JTAG), and embedded testing frameworks to validate firmware functionality
