Job summary

ATF is seeking a Supervisory Firearms Specialist to lead technical firearms operations and provide expert guidance across federal, state, and local agencies. Responsibilities include directing complex investigations, policy guidance, and staff supervision within the Firearms and Ammunition Technology Division.

The role requires specialized experience, leadership, and a commitment to collaboration with law enforcement partners to ensure compliance with federal firearms laws and regulations.

Qualifications

  • Specialized experience in conducting complex firearms and criminal enforcement operations.
  • Coordinating collaborative operations and/or technical support across federal, state, and local levels.
  • Providing technical guidance to ATF counsel for legal determinations and expert testimony.
  • Directing and supervising a team, assigning tasks, evaluating performance, and workload management.
  • Reviewing work of others and guiding firearms investigations including evidence testing and classification.
  • Providing training and assistance to ATF field staff (SAs, IOIs, IRSs).

Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct, and coordinate technical firearms matters across divisions and offices.
  • Provide expert guidance on firearms laws to support investigations and regulatory actions.
  • Exercise supervisory authority over Branch personnel and review performance.
  • Design and deliver instructional programs and advanced tactics for cross-jurisdictional law enforcement.
