Job summary

Chesapeake Fire Protection is seeking a senior design leader to head the fire sprinkler and suppression design department in Ashburn, VA. You will oversee project design quality, mentor staff, and ensure all work complies with NFPA standards and codes, coordinating with PMs and field teams to deliver accurate designs.

The role requires 8+ years in fire sprinkler design, NICET preferred, with proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, SprinkCad, and HydroCAD.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or technical training; 8+ years fire sprinkler design experience.
• NICET Level III or IV in Fire Protection preferred.
• Extensive knowledge of NFPA standards, hydraulics, and fire protection design software.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit; ability to interpret drawings and specs.

Responsibilities

• Manage and mentor a team of fire sprinkler designers.
• Oversee design of fire sprinkler and suppression systems for commercial, industrial, and multi-family projects.
• Ensure designs comply with NFPA standards, local codes, and project specs.
• Review and approve drawings, calculations, and submittals.
• Coordinate with project managers and field personnel.
• Develop and maintain departmental standards and workflows.
• Support permitting and respond to AHJ inquiries.
• Lead design reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Participate in client meetings and represent the design department.
