Job summary

Sycamore Township Fire Department in Ohio is seeking an Assistant Fire Chief, a senior leadership role responsible for assisting the Fire Chief with administration, operations, personnel management, and strategic direction of the department. The Assistant Fire Chief may respond to emergencies and provide leadership within the Incident Command System.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, sound judgment, effective communication, and the ability to manage both emergency

Qualifications

• Strong leadership, command presence, and EMS command experience.
• Ability to make timely decisions under emergency and managerial conditions.
• Extensive knowledge of fire suppression, rescue, EMS, hazmat, and training.
• Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws applicable to the role.

Responsibilities

• Overseeing operations including fire suppression, EMS, and technical rescue.
• Provide leadership, supervision, mentoring, and professional development.
• Assist with hiring, promotions, training, discipline, and career development.
• Promote accountability and effective communication between shifts.
• Develop and enforce department policies and guidelines.
• Coordinate projects, equipment inventories, and documentation.
• Serve as Acting Fire Chief when directed; respond to emergencies as needed.
