Job summary

DLH in Bethesda, Maryland, invites a Senior Fire Protection Engineer to join a hybrid team focused on federal health and national security programs. The role involves reviewing designs for 50+ buildings, conducting inspections, and leading fire protection testing while ensuring life safety compliance with NFPA codes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related engineering field required.
• 4+ years of Fire Protection experience required.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Fire Protection required.
• Experience with healthcare/lab environments; familiarity with NFPA 30 & 45 a plus.
• Valid driver’s license required; ability to obtain Public Trust clearance.

Responsibilities

• Review architectural/engineering designs and fire protection system shop drawings for over 50 buildings.
• Conduct construction inspections and issue final occupancy permits.
• Witness acceptance tests for fire alarm and sprinkler system modifications.
• Evaluate existing building conditions through life safety and hazard analysis surveys.
• Provide technical guidance using various NFPA codes.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related engineering field

4+ years of Fire Protection experience

Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Fire Protection

Experience supporting healthcare and/or laboratory environments, including familiarity with NFPA codes 30 and 45

Valid Driver’s License

Ability to obtain Public Trust clearance

Qualifications

• Must hold a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Fire Protection
• Experience supporting healthcare and/or laboratory environments, including familiarity with chemical hazards (NFPA codes 30 and 45)
• Must have a valid Driver’s License
• Must be able to obtain a Public Trust clearance

Basic Compensation: $135,000 - $140,000 yearly salary

The salary range listed reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this role at the time of posting. The final offer may vary based on skills, experience, geographic location, market conditions, and internal equity. Additional compensation may include performance incentives and program-specific awards. We do not use salary history to determine compensation, in line with applicable law.
