Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to join our team in a FT role, reporting to the Charlottesville VA Office. The role supports design of fire protection systems across projects, with flexibility for remote or hybrid work depending on candidacy and project needs.

You will lead technical analyses, coordinate with architects and engineers, and ensure compliance with NFPA, UFC, and local codes while mentoring junior staff and supporting business development activities.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent required.
Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible experience.
Fully licensed Fire Protection Engineer in at least one US state.
Experience on Federal projects preferred.
Field work exposure and travel may be required.
Pre-employment drug screen required.

Responsibilities

Serve as technical authority on fire protection concerns for complex projects.
Design fire protection systems including sprinklers, standpipes, detection and alarm, and smoke control.
Perform calculations using standard and proprietary software.
Prepare designs, drawings, specs, and reports under senior guidance.
Ensure compliance with codes and standards; coordinate with other disciplines.
Support construction with submittals, RFI responses, and inspections.
Lead project coordination meetings with clients and consultants.
Assist with business development and proposals.
