Job summary

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Fire Protection Engineer to support the design, evaluation, and implementation of fire protection and life safety systems for mission-critical healthcare facilities. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex engineering projects while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure facilities meet the highest safety and regulatory standards.

Candidates should reside in the San Antonio area or be willing to relocate. Travel to project sites is required approximately 6–12 times per year, with most trips involving overnight stays and typically scheduled well in advance.

Responsibilities
  • Design and review fire protection and life safety systems, including fire alarm, fire suppression, and detection systems.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, specifications, construction documents, and technical reports.
  • Conduct fire protection, building code, and life safety evaluations for healthcare and government facilities.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout project design and execution.
  • Perform field assessments, inspections, functional testing, and commissioning of fire protection systems.
  • Evaluate existing infrastructure and provide recommendations for repairs, upgrades, and long-term sustainment.
  • Ensure designs comply with NFPA standards, applicable building codes, Department of Defense criteria, and Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) requirements.
  • Respond to technical Requests for Information (RFIs) and provide engineering support throughout project lifecycles.
  • Travel to project sites to assess existing conditions and document findings and recommendations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of five years of engineering experience in design, construction, major repair, of mechanical infrastructure management.
  • At least three years of qualifying experience completed within the past four years.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance.
  • Ability to travel approximately 6–12 times annually.
  • Ability to work a hybrid schedule connected to the San Antonio office.
Preferred
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience supporting healthcare, federal, military, or Department of Defense facilities.
  • Strong understanding of NFPA standards, fire protection systems, and life safety requirements.
  • Experience with CAD, BIM, and engineering design software.
  • Knowledge of local, state, federal, and healthcare-related building codes and regulations.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and project coordination skills.
