We are seeking an experienced Fire Protection & Life Safety Engineer to support the planning, design, code consulting, and commissioning of fire protection and life safety systems for complex commercial and industrial facilities.
This role will work closely with multidisciplinary teams on projects involving life sciences, mission-critical, and industrial environments. The ideal candidate brings strong technical knowledge of fire alarm, sprinkler, life safety, and applicable building and fire codes, along with the ability to manage multiple projects and collaborate effectively with clients and project teams.
What You’ll Do
- Lead or support the planning, design, and commissioning of fire protection and life safety systems.
- Design and evaluate fire suppression, fire detection and alarm, and life safety systems.
- Support hazardous material storage and use evaluations.
- Develop drawings and models using AutoCAD and Revit.
- Prepare, review, and coordinate technical specifications.
- Perform hydraulic calculations for fire protection systems.
- Review shop drawings, calculations, and contractor submittals.
- Conduct third-party design reviews for commissioning, peer review, or permitting purposes.
- Interpret and apply applicable NFPA, ICC, and FM Global codes and standards.
- Participate in project meetings and coordinate with architectural, mechanical, electrical, structural, and other engineering disciplines.
- Manage assigned project schedules and coordinate priorities with project managers across multiple concurrent projects.
- Visit project sites to document existing conditions, observe construction progress, and verify installation requirements.
- Witness system acceptance testing and assist with commissioning activities.
- Perform third-party permitting or compliance inspections as required.
- Provide technical guidance on fire protection and life safety requirements throughout design and construction.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or another applicable engineering discipline.
- 7+ years of experience involving fire alarm, sprinkler, and life safety system design.
- Successful completion of the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam.
- Working proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Revit.
- Strong knowledge of applicable fire protection, life safety, and building codes.
- Experience preparing and reviewing technical drawings, specifications, calculations, and submittals.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to interpret technical documentation.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing schedules, project conditions, and priorities.
- Strong collaboration skills and experience working within multidisciplinary project teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Experience with life sciences, mission-critical, industrial, or similarly complex facilities.
- Experience with third-party commissioning, peer reviews, or permitting support.
- Familiarity with hazardous materials requirements and specialized fire protection systems.
- Experience conducting field inspections and witnessing system acceptance testing.
