Job summary

Fairfax County Government is seeking a Fire Inspector II to enforce the Virginia fire prevention codes through inspections of new and existing buildings and regulated properties within Fairfax County. You will witness contractor tests, review plans, investigate issues, and maintain inspection records, coordinating with county agencies as needed.

The role requires knowledge of VSFPC, VUSBC, and county amendments, plus the ability to interpret codes, prepare reports, and participate in training.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus one year of experience as Fire Inspector I and three years in fire protection or related trades.
• Must have valid driver's license and certifications listed in the job description.

Responsibilities

• Inspect job sites and buildings for compliance with fire codes and standards.
• Witness contractor performance tests and review construction plans.
• Maintain records of inspections and test results.
• Issue notices for code violations and coordinate corrective actions.
• Respond to inquiries and participate in meetings and training.
• Occasionally work on-call outside normal hours.
