Job summary

New York Life seeks a Senior FinOps Developer Engineer to join the Cloud Business Office, where software engineering, data, and cloud financial management converge to optimize AWS spend and governance.

You will build scalable FinOps tooling and data pipelines, automate cost controls, and deliver self-service insights to engineering and finance, embedding cost awareness across the development lifecycle and driving accountability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS/engineering or equivalent experience.
• AWS certification (e.g., Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer) encouraged.
• 3–5+ years of FinOps, cloud engineering, or cloud cost optimization.
• Hands-on AWS services, pricing models, and billing architecture experience.
• Experience with cost tools such as AWS Cost Explorer, Harness CCM, Apptio, CloudCheckr.
• Proficiency in Python, SQL, Power BI, or Excel.
• Experience building data pipelines, dashboards, and financial models.
• Strong understanding of cloud architecture and distributed systems.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate data into insights.

Responsibilities

• AWS Cost Engineering & Optimization: monitor, analyze, and optimize AWS spend.
• Identify cost-saving strategies: rightsizing, Savings Plans, RI, tiering, scheduling.
• FinOps Platform Development: design tooling, APIs, data pipelines for visibility.
• Automate cost allocation, tagging enforcement, and chargeback/showback models.
• Integrate AWS billing data into centralized data platforms for analytics.
• Data, Reporting & Forecasting: build dashboards with QuickSight/Tableau/Power BI.
• Forecasting models and anomaly detection for cloud spend.
• Enable self-service cost insights for engineering and business teams.
• Governance & Best Practices: enforce tagging standards and policies.
• Embed FinOps in CI/CD pipelines and engineering workflows.
