Job summary

Penn National Insurance is seeking a Manager, Financial Reporting in Harrisburg, a hybrid role reporting to the Harrisburg, PA office. The role oversees statutory and GAAP financial reporting, regulatory filings and state/local premium taxes, with leadership of a staff of analysts.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's in Accounting, with CPA/CPCU or MBA preferred and at least five years in insurance accounting or public accounting, plus supervisory experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required.
• CPA, CPCU or MBA preferred.
• AIAF insurance designation preferred.
• Minimum five years of experience in public accounting (auditing insurance companies) and/or insurance accounting.
• Previous supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop, direct and coach assigned staff, establishing performance objectives and monitoring outcomes.
• Lead staff communications and foster open dialogue in meetings and 1:1 discussions.
• Develops, implements, and monitors reporting, reconciliation, interpretation and analysis of accounting information.
• Evaluate staffing needs, assign work and mentor staff to ensure full utilization.
• Determine training emphasis and deliver training for Financial Reporting staff.
• Manage corporate accounting and GAAP/statutory financial reporting including statements and regulatory filings.
• Oversee internal preparation of state and local premium tax returns.
• Ensure timely completion of ad hoc assignments and projects.
• Maintain the general ledger system and monthly/annual closing processes.
• Prepare and post entries and review account reconciliations.
• Identify tasks and resources needed to achieve strategic objectives.
