Location: Houston, TX

Type of Position: Direct Hire

Responsibilities:
  • Own the analytical reporting for the rental segment P&L, rental fleet balance sheet, and capital allocation process supporting fleet acquisition, redeployment, and disposition decisions.
  • Build and maintain revenue bridges that decompose rental revenue change into fleet size, physical utilization, rate realization, mix, and contract duration to identify key drivers of performance.
  • Track rate realization versus book rate by product family, branch, customer, sales representative, and contract type; quantify discount leakage and identify specific drivers.
  • Analyze rate factor versus internal targets and market benchmarks; recommend rate card changes and model utilization elasticity for proposed adjustments.
  • Model contract duration mix and evaluate impacts on realized yield, delivery cost intensity, and service/shop turnaround load.
  • Quantify ancillary revenue capture, including damage waiver penetration, environmental/ancillary fees, fuel, delivery and pickup billing, telematics fees, and bundled attachment packages.
  • Measure transportation cost recovery by branch and radius (freight/haul revenue billed versus fully loaded delivery cost, including owned trucking where applicable).
  • Analyze re-rent/sub-rent economics including volume, gross margin, vendor concentration, and whether re-rent is flexing capacity appropriately versus masking structural fleet gaps.
  • Separate and report rent-to-rent versus rent-to-sell activity, including impacts on carrying costs, margins, and utilization.
  • Own definitions, calculations, and data integrity for physical utilization, financial utilization, and OEC on rent, including proper treatment of units in shop, held for sale, in transit, and on standby.
  • Reconcile machine operating hours data to billed rental days to identify under-billing, potential over-hours exposure, unauthorized use, and idle-time patterns signaling customer over-fleeting.
  • Produce utilization analysis by class, branch, and season; identify chronically underutilized OEC and recommend redeployment, class rebalancing, or disposition.
  • Establish and maintain class-level utilization targets calibrated to product families and equipment categories.
  • Quantify the cost of fleet unavailability, including revenue lost due to downtime, parts delays, damage repair, and transportation delays; measure return-to-rent readiness cycle time.
  • Analyze fleet mix versus demand, including fill rate and lost-rental tracking (declined quotes by class/branch and estimated OEC required to capture unmet demand).
  • Develop and maintain analytics that measure maintenance and repair operational effectiveness and economic performance.
  • Analyze service performance metrics such as technician productivity/efficiency, wrench time, shop capacity utilization, preventive maintenance compliance, repair cycle time, and make-ready performance.
  • Build unit- and class-level reporting for maintenance cost per hour, maintenance cost per revenue dollar, cost per repair event, cost per preventive maintenance event, warranty recovery, and rebuild costs.
  • Identify recurring failure patterns and recommend actions to reduce downtime, improve reliability, extend economic life, and improve fleet readiness.
  • Support fleet replacement planning through analysis of reliability trends, component life cycles, repair frequency, and major component failures.
  • Quantify the economic impact of preventive maintenance programs, rebuild programs, component replacement programs, and service process improvements.
  • Partner with service leadership to improve readiness, reduce downtime, and maximize return on fleet investments; link maintenance performance to utilization, revenue, productivity, and profitability.
  • Own the analytical framework governing fleet availability, reservation fulfillment, and demand forecasting across locations and branches.
  • Establish and track fleet availability metrics such as ready-to-rent percentage, available fleet percentage, and availability by class/branch/district.
  • Quantify key drivers of unavailability including preventive maintenance, corrective repairs, damage, parts delays, transportation delays, and inspection requirements.
  • Develop and maintain demand forecasting models by equipment class, market, seasonality, customer segment, and branch.
  • Analyze reservation activity including reservations booked, conversion rates, cancellations, and fulfillment rates.
  • Establish lost rental analytics to identify equipment shortages, geographic imbalances, pricing-related losses, transportation constraints, competitor wins, and customer cancellations.
  • Measure fill rate performance and estimate revenue opportunity associated with unmet demand; provide recommendations for fleet expansions, redeployments, category growth, and seasonal adjustments.
  • Develop and maintain customer profitability reporting and analyze profitability/return metrics by customer, account segment, sales rep, branch/district, and industry segment.
  • Measure customer contribution using revenue, gross margin, contribution metrics, fleet productivity, transaction volume, transportation costs, and service costs.
  • Develop customer lifetime value models and partner with sales leadership to identify share‑of‑wallet opportunities, customer concentration risks, and account expansion opportunities.
  • Analyze sales performance (revenue growth, rate realization, discount leakage, conversion ratios, retention) and support sales/territory deployment strategies through actionable analytics.
  • Provide reporting that quantifies return on commercial investments and identifies highest‑value customer segments for future growth.
  • Support fleet strategy, category management, and long‑term capital deployment decisions through structured analysis and recommendations.
Requirements:
  • 10+ years of progressive finance experience preferred, ideally within equipment rental, heavy equipment, or a similar asset-intensive environment.
  • Strong hybrid background across FP&A and controllership, including P&L structuring, cost allocation, and financial reporting support.
  • Ability to operate at both unit-level and portfolio-level analysis, translating operational drivers into financial outcomes and executive-ready insights.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with accounting and operational teams to obtain data, improve processes, and deliver accurate reporting.
  • Experience leading or mentoring others; ability to manage at least one direct report and contribute as a hands‑on leader.
  • Entrepreneurial, self‑directed mindset with the ability to prioritize and execute with limited day‑to‑day direction in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Advanced Excel skills and comfort working in a high‑volume reporting environment; ability to navigate and learn ERP, rental operations systems, and reporting/BI tools (without reliance on a system overhaul).
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including the polish to interface effectively with legacy accounting teams and operational leadership.
