Job summary

Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield is a leading health insurer in Iowa and surrounding regions, seeking a high-profile analyst to lead advanced preparation, analysis, forecasting, and modeling of financial data to support strategic financial goals.

You will prepare internal and external financial statements, NAIC filings, CMS reports, and provide variance explanations to senior leadership. The role requires strong GAAP/SAP knowledge and a CPA is preferred for regulatory reporting excellence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or related field or direct applicable work experience.
• 4+ years of experience in accounting/auditing with strong GAAP and SAP concepts.
• Experience preparing GAAP and Statutory financial statements and NAIC regulatory reports.
• Ability to research GAAP and Statutory accounting conclusions and document support.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to handle confidential information.
• Proven ability to meet deadlines in fast-paced environments and communicate clearly with senior management.

Responsibilities

• Prepare internal and external financial statements, reports, and supporting information in accordance with accounting guidelines and regulatory rules (NAIC filings, CMS MLR, etc.).
• Produce formal management financial reports at product line and legal entity levels with variance analysis.
• Communicate financial data to management and explain variances from expected results.
• Research and report on GAAP, SAP, NAIC guidelines and BCBS accounting rules and applicability.
• Prepare and review journal entries and reconcile balances with supporting documentation.
• Ensure expenses and revenues are allocated to correct entities and market segments; partner with other departments.
• Maintain documentation for internal controls and assist audits and regulatory exams.
• Represent Finance on cross-functional projects requiring financial expertise.
