Job summary

Montgomery County Public Schools in Virginia is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst & Accountant to support the Finance Department. The role reports to the Director of Finance and combines general ledger accounting with budget development, forecasting, and financial modeling.

The ideal candidate will ensure GAAP, GASB, and VDOE compliance, prepare accurate financial statements, dashboards, and variance analyses, and collaborate with schools, departments, auditors, and external partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required in accounting, finance, or related field.
• Minimum three years of progressive accounting, budgeting or financial analysis experience in public sector.
• Knowledge of GAAP, GASB, and school finance reporting.
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and multi-year planning.
• Strong Excel and financial systems proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Maintain general ledger and process journal entries.
• Perform monthly reconciliations and close activities.
• Assist with budget development, forecasting, and financial reporting.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, GASB, and VDOE requirements.
• Prepare analysis and briefing materials for leadership and auditors.
