Aston Carter in Maple Grove, MN is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst (Contractor) to support the monthly close, billing, and variance analysis. The role requires strong accounting fundamentals and adaptability in a consulting environment.

Responsibilities span journal entries, client invoicing, regulatory true-ups, audits, and cross-functional collaboration to improve processes. Hybrid work arrangement available with salary in a competitive hourly range.

Qualifications

• 510+ years of experience in financial analysis, with a strong background in finance, reporting, and analytical work.
• Hands-on experience with billing analysis, including creating and reviewing customer invoices.
• Proficiency in preparing and posting journal entries and supporting month-end close activities.
• Experience with regulatory filings, including supporting true-up calculations and related documentation.
• Strong skills in budgeting, financial analysis, and financial reporting in a corporate or utility environment.
• Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, SUMIF functions, and working with complex, pre-built formulas.
• Ability to quickly ramp up on a consulting assignment and learn new processes and systems with minimal oversight.
• Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business, or a related field.
• Strong communication skills and comfort working closely with other departments and stakeholders.
• Ability to balance repetitive tasks with project-based work while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.

• Assist with regulatory and contractual true-up calculations, including preparing supporting schedules and documentation.
• Support audit requests by compiling detailed financial schedules and relevant supporting documentation.
• Respond promptly and professionally to financial and accounting inquiries from internal stakeholders.
• Participate in special projects related to accounting, rates, financial systems, and operational improvements.
• Collaborate with finance colleagues focused on member billing, month-end close and reporting, and budgeting to ensure aligned financial processes.
• Provide backup support for other finance functions as needed to maintain continuity of operations.
• Leverage existing Excel models and formulas and contribute to process improvements, potentially using tools such as Copilot where appropriate.
• Communicate proactively with other departments, asking clarifying questions and raising issues early to avoid errors and delays.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Maple Grove, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $70.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
