Job summary

ShipBob is hiring a Senior Financial Analyst to join the FP&A team focused on transportation initiatives. You will forecast, analyze variance, and build board/investor materials to support profitable growth.

This role bridges Finance and Transportation, enhancing ship margin analysis and forecasting while partnering with the broader FP&A group. The candidate will develop models, support annual planning, and deliver monthly/quarterly reporting for stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance or related field.
  • 3PL or relevant experience in Transportation is required.
  • 3–5 years of experience in FP&A or related field.
  • Excellent financial modeling skills and understanding of financial statements.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, able to convey complex financial concepts to stakeholders.
  • High comfort level with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge of NetSuite, SmartView, SQL, PowerBI, and Power Query is preferred.
  • Ability to build partnerships with senior management and teams.
  • Self-starter who meets deadlines and is detail oriented.
  • Thrives in a dynamic startup environment and can navigate ambiguity.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders through strategic thinking and action plans.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough analysis on transportation initiatives each month and share key drivers and variances with senior management.
  • Collaborate with partners to report on weekly performance, especially Transportation, and forecast ship costs and margins.
  • Manage relationships with Transportation team to build bottoms-up forecasts and identify risks and opportunities.
  • Support development of models and processes for new strategic transportation initiatives.
  • Prepare the annual operating plan with Transportation to build plans and targets and translate to budget.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly investor and board presentations highlighting key metrics and variance to budget.
  • Provide insights on operational metrics, margin analysis, and communicate findings to business partners.
  • Leverage financial concepts to develop and improve models and procedures.
  • Drive continuous improvements and automation in existing files and processes.
  • Work with management to drive improvements in key company strategies.
  • Proactively offer solutions to business needs and optimize investments behind strategies.
  • Network with stakeholders to understand objectives and how to help achieve them.
  • Additional duties as necessary.

Role Description:

We are looking for aSeniorFinancial Analyst(SFA)to join our small but dynamic and fast-paced team. This role will be an integral part of the finance teamsupporting transportation initiativesand responsible for the preparation of financial forecasts, perform detailed variance analysis, create operational performance reporting, and build board/investor materials. TheSFAwill play a critical role in ensuring that the company is able toexecuteits strategic plans and achieve profitable growth.

This role will be theliaisonbetween Finance and the Transportation team, enhancing our ability to forecast,set targets, andmeasureTransportation costperformanceacross thecompany.This role will also partner with others on the FP&A team toenhance ship margin analysis, reporting, and forecasting and will alsoaid inotherstrategic projects& ad-hocworkas necessary.This role reports to the FP&A Manager.

What you’ll do:

  • Completethoroughanalysis ontransportation initiativeseach month and communicate key performance drivers and variances toplan tosenior management.
  • Collaborate with partners to strategize and report on weekly performance, especially related to Transportation. Provide a timelier outlook on shifts in shipcosts andmargin.
  • Manage relationships withTransportationteam to build bottoms up forecasts and provide areas of risks and opportunities.
  • Support the development and implementation of models and processes for new strategic transportation initiatives.
  • Prepare the annual operating plan by engaging withthe Transportation teamto buildappropriate plansand targets and convert this into the financial budget.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reporting presentations for investors and the board highlighting key business metrics, variance to budget and other relevant trends.
  • Provide insightful study of key operational business metrics, develop marginanalysis,and communicate findings to respective business partners.
  • Utilize professional knowledge, business acumen, financial concepts, and companyobjectivesto develop and improve models and procedures.
  • Complete continuous improvementand automation inexistingfiles and processes.Findfeasibleworkaroundstocomplicated files.
  • Continuously work with management tosteerimprovements in the company's approach to developing key strategies.
  • Proactivelyprovidessolutions tobusiness needsin creative and effective ways.Analyze and helpoptimizeinvestments behind key company strategies.

The full base pay range for this position in our compensation architecture is$83,608- $139,347. In addition to base salary, this role includes the opportunity to be eligible for participation in the Company's discretionary bonus plan based on Company's plans and in accordance with Company's policies.
