Lakefield Veterinary Group is seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Senior Financial Analyst to support our corporate development and finance teams in identifying, evaluating, and executing mergers and acquisitions (M&A) opportunities. The ideal candidate will have strong financial modeling skills, proficiency in Excel, and a solid understanding of valuation techniques and financial statement analysis. This role is critical to our growth strategy and will provide valuable insights to drive successful acquisition decisions.
Key Responsibilities:
The Senior Financial Analyst plays a crucial role in our M&A process, from initial target identification through transaction execution and integration planning. This position reports to the Director of FP&A with a dotted line to the Chief Development Officer and works closely with the executive leadership team.
Financial Modeling & Valuation:
- Build and maintain complex financial models to assess potential M&A transactions, including scenario and sensitivity analysis
- Conduct valuation analyses using methodologies such as DCF, comparable company analysis, and precedent transactions
- Develop integration models to quantify potential synergies and post-acquisition financial performance
- Assist in the preparation of investment memos, presentations, and other decision-making materials for executive leadership and stakeholders
- Analyze financial statements and other company data to evaluate the financial performance and strategic fit of target companies
- Support due diligence processes by identifying key risks and opportunities in target financials
Market & Strategic Analysis:
- Perform market and industry research to support deal evaluation and strategic recommendations
- Identify and evaluate potential acquisition targets that align with company strategy
- Monitor industry trends and competitive landscape to inform acquisition strategy
- Support post-acquisition reviews to evaluate transaction performance against projections
Process Management:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including corporate development, finance, legal, and operations during the due diligence and integration processes
- Maintain databases and trackers for deal pipeline and financial benchmarks
- Develop and implement best practices for M&A processes and documentation
- Support the integration planning process by providing financial analysis and performance metrics
Qualifications:
- MBA
- 2+ years of experience in investment banking, corporate development, or financial planning & analysis (FP&A) with exposure to M&A activity
- Advanced Excel skills, including financial modeling, scenario analysis, and data visualization
- Strong understanding of corporate finance principles and valuation techniques
- Knowledge of accounting principles and financial statement analysis
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Highly organized, with strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) is a plus
- Familiarity with transaction management platforms and financial databases (e.g., Capital IQ, PitchBook)
- Prior experience in a specific industry vertical relevant to our acquisition strategy
- Understanding of integration planning and post-merger considerations
- Knowledge of deal structuring and transaction documentation
