Senior Finance Director - School of Continuing Studies

The Senior Finance Director serves as the chief finance officer and the senior business manager for the School of Continuing Studies (SCS), comprising 13 divisions or departments, more than 20-degree programs, more than 160 professional administrative staff and full-time faculty members, and more than 1,000 part-time adjunct faculty members. The Senior Finance Director oversees the financial planning and budgeting function for the school, including position budgeting, resource allocation, and business operations in alignment with the mission and objectives of the School. The role also serves as a backup to the Chief of Staff for the Human Resources function for staff/AAP and Vice Dean for faculty. Additionally, this position supports the Dean and other stakeholders in developing the strategic plan for the school and drives the implementation of SCS's financial strategy and strategic plan. The incumbent will monitor external and internal factors influencing SCS's mission and goals. Other duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as a strategic financial and administrative partner to the leadership of SCS and its programs.
  • Ensure that SCS staff, faculty, and students receive high-quality administrative support in compliance with University policies and procedures.
  • Manage the comprehensive business affairs of the programs, including departmental budgets, information systems, strategic planning, and budgeting for human resource allocation, including faculty contracting, hiring, and other position changes.
  • Partner with the Chief of Staff for organizational development, including training, development, and regulatory compliance.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with SCS leadership, departmental and program staff, the Office of the Provost, Human Resources, the Office of the CFO, and other university offices and departments.
Work Interactions

The Senior Finance Director reports directly to the Dean, SCS, with a dotted line to the Vice President and Chief Business Officer, Main Campus. The role manages two positions: the Executive Director of SCS Financial Operations and the Director of Business Administration, SCS. The role collaborates with the Office of the Provost on academic, financial, and faculty affairs; works closely with SCS unit heads on financial management, strategy, and compliance; and coordinates with Human Resources, Legal Counsel, and other offices on matters related to resource allocation, legal agreements, and program activities.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Business or Accounting preferred; a Bachelor's degree plus substantial experience in related fields may suffice.
  • Ten years of progressively responsible leadership and supervision in finance and administration, preferably in higher education.
  • Experience in developing and managing complex budgets and proficiency with electronic financial management tools.
  • Building and utilizing financial models and business analytics expertise.
  • Proficiency with complex financial planning, forecasting, and revenue/expenditure management.
  • Expertise in Excel and familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Zoom.
  • Experience managing complex teams with adaptability and flexibility.
  • Strong strategic planning, resource allocation, managerial, decision-making, organizational, analytical, and leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, discretion, and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Workday, Adaptive, and Cognos preferred.
  • Professional accounting qualifications are desirable.
Work Mode

This position is designated as Hybrid, with an expectation of on-site presence 3 days a week. Support for Tropaia and Commencement activities in person is required.

Compensation

The projected salary range is $103,723.00 - $202,778.93. Compensation is based on qualifications, experience, and university needs.
