Senior Field Technician – Construction Materials Testing – Memphis, Tennessee
Intertek is actively seeking a Senior Field Technician to join our Intertek‑PSI team in Memphis, Tennessee. This role offers a versatile career in the architectural, engineering and construction industry, performing field inspections and construction materials testing to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of testing, project‑specific observations and site assessment duties under general supervision or controlled procedures.
- Operate testing equipment and conduct testing (e.g., soil, concrete, or other materials) and provide assessment of data through reporting.
- Work utilizing drawings, specifications and diagrams.
- Use specific methods to observe site activities and perform tasks.
- Make detailed observations and give limited interpretation of results.
- Maintain detailed documentation and data from test results.
- Operate a calculator to compute mathematical test results.
- Communicate effectively with clients and project teams.
- Adhere to safety practices and policies to ensure personal safety and the safety of others.
Minimum Requirements
- Five or more years of experience performing field construction materials testing.
- Effective communication skills (written, verbal, listening) and solid interpersonal skills.
- External (or task‑related) certifications based on region and state may be required.
- Basic math, calculator and computer skills.
- Ability to read and understand work plans.
- Must be able to work off‑shift and overtime as needed.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record.
Preferred Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I Certification.
- Additional industry certifications (ACI/ICC/TDOT) are highly preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, move, push and pull up to 50 pounds; occasionally over 50 pounds with assistance.
- Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication.
- Ability to kneel and squat occasionally.
- Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (hot and cold).
- Ability to climb occasionally.
