Senior Construction Materials Testing Technician - Plymouth, MI

Intertek, a leading provider of quality and safety solutions, is actively seeking a Senior Construction Materials Testing Technician to join our Professional Services Industries, Inc. (Intertek‑PSI) team in Plymouth, MI. This role offers a versatile career in the architectural, engineering, and construction (A/E/C) industry.

Qualifications and Experience

We look for candidates with ACI, ICC, WisDOT, or other inspector credentials. Training is provided for individuals with less experience. Key requirements include:

• Ability to lift, move, push and pull 30–50 pounds frequently; occasionally more with assistance.
• Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and discriminate sounds.
• Ability to kneel, squat, and climb occasionally.
• Ability to walk and stand for long periods.
• Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (hot and cold).
• High school education or equivalent; preferred with 5+ years of related experience, or bachelor’s science degree from an accredited engineering/ABET school with 0–2 years of experience.
• Experience performing field and/or laboratory construction materials testing.
• Basic math, calculator, and computer skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to read and understand work plans.
• Willingness to work off shifts and overtime.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record.

Preferred Credentials

• ACI, ICC, or WisDOT certifications.

What You’ll Do

• Perform a variety of testing, project‑specific observations, and site assessment duties under direct supervision and/or from detailed controlled procedures.
• Conduct observations and testing of construction materials such as soils, concrete, masonry, reinforcing steel placement, fireproofing, and asphalt.
• Attend project meetings independently.
• Train other technicians.
• Operate testing equipment and conduct tests (e.g., soil, concrete).
• Perform field and laboratory testing of soil samples and concrete specimens.
• Document daily activities and testing results and prepare field reports.
• Work using drawings, specifications, and diagrams.
• Work outdoors on a year‑round basis at various construction sites.
• Make detailed observations and provide limited interpretation of results.
• Maintain documentation and data from test results.
• Use a calculator to compute mathematical test results.
• Adhere to safety practices and policies to ensure own safety and that of others.
• Clean and maintain equipment and perform site clean‑up.
• Interface with contractors and clients.
