Job summary

Onterris is seeking a Senior Field Service Technician to drive field deployment of water and vapor treatment technologies in the Portland, ME area. This role partners with Project Managers to review scope, safety and responsibilities, applying environmental engineering principles in field operations.

The position offers a pathway for growth with extensive field work, travel up to 75%, and responsibility for equipment setup, testing, and data collection in support of remediation and treatment

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 5+ years of mechanical/electrical troubleshooting and environmental sampling.
• Valid Class C driver’s license with reliable travel.
• NFPA70E training or willingness to complete.
• Willing to travel up to 75%.
• HAZWOPER certification (40 hour) and annual 8-hour refresher.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and data handling.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex field engineering activities including inspections and startup support.
• Coordinate with clients, contractors and project teams to ensure specs, quality and safety.
• Operate and maintain environmental treatment equipment (pumps, filters, tanks, vessels).
• Understand hydraulic, mechanical operation and instrumentation control schemes.
• Support fabrication activities and bench/pilot testing equipment setup.
• Fabricate piping/skid in shop and field; troubleshoot mechanical/electrical issues.
• Collect samples and operate field monitoring equipment (PID/FID, pH, EC, DO).
• Document monitoring data and prepare daily reports and data sheets.
• Maintain chain-of-custody and regulatory sample handling protocols.
• Maintain safety and PPE compliance; communicate site conditions to stakeholders.
• Interact with clients as a front-line representative of the company.

As a Senior Field Service Technician , you will be responsible for driving the implementation of our innovative water and vapor treatment technologies in the field along with supporting the operations pilot demonstration units. This position will partner with Project Managers when jobs are awarded to review project scope of work, roles and responsibilities, and project safety. Additionally, this position will apply theory and principles of environmental engineering to modify, test, and operate equipment and devices used in the prevention, control, and remediation of environmental problems, including waste treatment and site remediation, under the direction of engineering staff or scientists. This position may assist in the development of environmental remediation devices.

The annual compensation range for this role is $80,000-$90,000 commensurate with experience, skills, and geographic location.

This position is based in Portland, ME.

A Day in the Life

Reporting to the Field Services Project Manager, this role will be responsible for a full range of activities including:

• Leads and independently performs complex field engineering and technical activities, including equipment inspections, startup and commissioning support, fabrication progress evaluations, vendor and supplier site audits, construction inspections, field verification measurements, site assessments, troubleshooting, and comprehensive data collection efforts.
• Serves as a technical lead in the field by coordinating with clients, contractors, vendors, and project teams to ensure compliance with project specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and operational objectives.
• Performs operations and maintenance (O&M) of various types of environmental treatment equipment including pumps, filters, tanks, pressure vessels, and other types of process unit operations.
• Poses a general understanding of system hydraulics, mechanical operation/functionality and instrumentation/electrical control schemes
• Support fabrication activities, as well as hands-on set-up of bench and pilot testing equipment
• Executes piping/skid fabrication in the shop and field, troubleshoots and repairs mechanical and electrical system issues or failures
• Collects samples using a variety of sampling methods and operates field monitoring equipment including but not limited to: PID/FID, pH, EC, DO, GEM, turbidity, water level, and LEL meters
• Measures and records treatment operational data by carefully documenting monitoring and testing results on field forms and prepares field daily reports and data sheets
• Conducts field monitoring, sampling, testing, and basic evaluations; maintains chain-of-custody documentation and regulatory sample handling protocols; and records inspection data in electronic spreadsheets and reports
• Ensures proper labeling and handling of hazardous material and waste
• Exercise safe work practices by following all Company safety rules and OSHA regulations, including attendance at all required safety training programs
• Communicates promptly with Project Managers and various stakeholders to inform of site conditions and activities
• Interacts with clients acting as a front-line representative of the company, presents a professional appearance, and wears appropriate PPE on job sites
• Participate in the company’s continuous improvement programs and provide support to team efforts
• Keep up-to-date and current on industry trends by completing formal training
• Perform other duties as assigned

Your Expertise and Skills

To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• 5+ years of experience performing mechanical/electrical troubleshooting, environmental collection, monitoring, sampling, testing and basic evaluation
• Must possess a valid Class C driver’s license with a clean driving record and have reliable transportation for travel to project and job sites.
• NFPA70E Training or the willingness to complete.
• Ability/willingness to travel up to 75%
• Ability to complete and maintain HAZWOPER certification with the 40 hour HAZWOPER environmental health and safety class, and annual 8-hour refresher classes
• Must have the ability to lift 50 pounds such as monitoring equipment and tools, with or without assistance
• Proficient with Microsoft Office software
• Be able to deliver and receive electronic documents
• Ability to interface with cross-functional teams and all levels of personnel/management
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills
• Solid organization and time/project management skills
• Effective verbal and written communication skills, must have legible handwriting
• Able to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities (i.e. self-starter, self-motivated)

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with supervision of construction projects
• Background in electrical, plumbing or other mechanical trades. Electrical background preferred.
• Competence in HVAC, mechanical and electrical. .
• Ability to operate systems via PLC SCADA.
• Associate’s Degree in Environmental Studies from an accredited university or a technical certification

Working Conditions

Physical Demands

While performing the in-office responsibilities of the job, the employee may be required to spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers, and is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel.

While performing the out of office field responsibilities for the job, the employee will be required to travel up to 75% of the time. Typically out of state, Monday to Friday travel. There may be occasional multiple week operations stints which will be compensated with flexible off time during home periods. There may be occasional lifting (overhead, waist level) from floor of supplies and materials weighing no more than 50 pounds. The work may involve some bending, standing or walking.

Work Environment

Moderate exposure to environmental conditions that impact physical comfort such as temperature extremes while performing field work is possible.
