Job summary

ABB's Electrification Services Division in the Mid-Atlantic region is seeking a skilled Field Technician to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain electrical distribution equipment across MD, VA and DC. The role involves remote work with on-site support at customer sites and engineering prep.

You will perform startup, commissioning, testing and preventive maintenance on low- and medium-voltage systems and ATS/protective relays.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required with 5+ years field service or engineering experience in electrical power distribution.
  • Experience reading and interpreting electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and protection/control drawings.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and field service software.

Responsibilities

  • Perform startup, commissioning, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and repair activities on electrical power distribution equipment.
  • Field service on low- and medium-voltage switchgear, circuit breakers, protective relays, ATS, PLCs, and power management systems.
  • Diagnose equipment and system failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Support retrofits, upgrades, modernization projects, and emergency service calls.
  • Develop electrical drawings, schematics, and bills of material as required.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and maintain strong customer relationships.
  • Prepare service reports, commissioning reports, and customer documentation.

In this role, you will perform installation, troubleshooting, repair and preventative maintenance on electrical distribution equipment.This role is contributing to the profitability of the ABB Electrification Services Division in the Mid-Atlantic Region The work model for the role is Remote with most work taking place in MD, VA and Washington DC. It will include some remote work for engineering preparation and at customer sites for installation.Key ResponsibilitiesExecute startup, commissioning, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and repair activities on electrical power distribution equipment.Perform field service activities on low- and medium-voltage switchgear, circuit breakers, protective relays, automatic transfer switches (ATS), PLCs, and power management systems.Diagnose equipment and system failures and implement corrective actions.Support retrofits, upgrades, modernization projects, and emergency service calls.Develop electrical drawings, schematics, and bills of material as required.Deliver exceptional customer service and maintain strong customer relationships.Prepare service reports, commissioning reports, and customer documentation.Basic QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED, plus 5+ years of field service or engineering experience in electrical power distribution systems. Additional formal education may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.Strong working knowledge of:Low- and medium-voltage switchgear and circuit breakersCommissioning, maintaining, or troubleshooting power distribution equipmentMechanical and Electrical Testing of Low- and Medium-Voltage EquipmentAbility to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and protection/control drawings.Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.Valid driver's license and willingness to travel up to 80%.Candidates must already have a work authorization that allows them to work for ABB in the United States.Preferred QualificationsExperience and working knowledge of:Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS)Protective relays (SEL, GE Multilin, or equivalent)Generator control systemsPLC and HMI platformsExperience commissioning, maintaining, or troubleshooting power distribution equipment in industrial, utility, commercial, or data center environments.More about usABB's Service Division partners with our customers to improve the availability, reliability, predictability and sustainability of electrical products and installations.
