Job summary

RMS Energy seeks a Senior Field Service Technician to lead testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of electrical systems in power plants, substations, and industrial facilities across the U.S.

You will mentor junior technicians, supervise field crews, and maintain safety best practices while delivering accurate documentation and customer updates. Expect 50% travel and hands-on work with 480V-600kV equipment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; relevant trade school or associate degree desirable.
• 7–10+ years in power industry; field commissioning and testing experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of substation equipment, MV/HV breakers, and electrical system troubleshooting.
• Experience leading field crews and mentoring junior technicians.
• Must be able to travel up to 50% across the continental U.S.

Responsibilities

• Lead advanced testing, commissioning, and maintenance on LV-HV equipment (480V-600kV).
• Perform diagnostics using specialized test equipment (Doble, TTR, Power Factor, Tan Delta, VLF, DC Hi-Pot).
• Test and verify electromechanical, solid-state, and microprocessor-based protective relays.
• Develop test plans and execute commissioning procedures for new or upgraded systems.
• Supervise field crews, assign tasks, and ensure safety, quality, and compliance.
• Complete reports, test results, and job documentation using Power DB and other platforms.
• Interface with customers to provide updates, gather requirements, and ensure satisfaction.
• Enforce safety practices, LOTO protocols, and PPE usage on job sites.
